(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Wood Ear Mushrooms

When I was perusing the aisles at Whole Foods last weekend, I came across these curious looking mushrooms in the produce section.  They are from China and are called Wood Ear mushrooms, for obvious reasons =)  They are mainly used for their texture in dishes like stir fry or soup, since they don’t actually taste like much.  Very interesting texture though, sort of squeaky and crunchy?  It’s hard to explain, but if you see them at the store, give them a try.  See you tomorrow for a recipe!
